Emergency Department Optimization

Brighthospital provides emergency department performance improvement models, which blends analytics, operations know-how, benchmarking, and hands-on implementation. These models have been implemented in urban Level-1 trauma centers with success.

All the models include the following features:

  • Detailed analysis supplemented with benchmarking to identify the needs.

  • Recommendations and project plans to guide the institution’s transformation.

  • Hands-on support at critical times.

  • Constant monitoring of the operations, to aid immediate refinement and ensure lasting change.

ED models focus on three phases of ED operations:

Intake Optimization

Intake optimization focuses on the time frame from patients’ arrival to the ED, triage, and initial assessment to start of care, to create the ideal and customized intake model that fits the unique needs of individual EDs. The analysis considers such factors as:

  • Split-flow implementation.

  • Provider at Triage models.

  • Arrival modelling and staffing optimization.

  • Door to Doc time optimization.

ED Care Analysis

ED Care analysis aims to clearly identify the bottlenecks in the care of patients and create plans to optimize the delivery of care. The analysis includes:

  • Order to Execution analysis of diagnostic studies and tests.

  • Consult analysis.

  • Staffing Optimization.

DISCHARGE / OUTPUT OPTIMIZATION

Discharge / Output Optimization.  In today’s EDs, the ability to efficiently discharge a patient to their appropriate destination is key to increasing the throughput. This model reviews the following areas and creates a performance improvement plan to improve discharge efficiency:

  • Inpatient Admission process analysis.

  • Admit order to Departure bottleneck analysis.

  • Boarded Patient analysis.
